The pause you don't give yourself
Dear One,
Funny thing about me — I often get paid to help people lie down and do nothing.
And after I help facilitate a necessary lie down, a soothing slow down, or a lil breakdown, my clients often follow up with some version of the same question:
“Why don’t I do this for myself?”
I know, darling.
It seems like we should be able to relax, unwind, restore, integrate our feelings, process our somatic experience, and release our stuckness — all on our own.
But there’s a meaningful difference between holding yourself on the mat, and being energetically held.
Between convincing yourself to stay in the restorative pose, and feeling genuinely inspired enough to remain.
Between coaxing your mind toward stillness, and being guided towards your own inner wisdom.
I’m not magic. I’m just there. And sometimes, that makes all the difference.
Having someone there to witness, guide, and gently facilitate your experience of doing less, less, less. Helping you stay with an experience long enough so that something can shift —towards integration, recovery, clarity.
If you could use some time on the mat, being supported by a room full of steady humans, join us for Befriending Stillness, a restorative workshop with consent-based bodywork. This Saturday 3/21, in-person, from 6-7:30pm at JP Centre Yoga.
(If you can’t join this weekend, you can sign up for the next workshop, Saturday 4/25 from 6-7:30pm)
And for anyone seeking more personalized mind-body-nervous system support, in-person yoga therapy is back at my sweet office in Roslindale Square on Fridays. Learn more here.
With love,
~ Alex
